A-Cal D Tablet 500 mg+200 IU is a combination supplement containing Elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol). This formulation is designed to support optimal bone health by improving calcium absorption and maintaining adequate calcium levels in the body. Calcium and vitamin D preparations
Calcium is an essential mineral involved in bone mineralization, neuromuscular function, enzyme activity, and blood coagulation. Nearly 99% of the body’s calcium is stored in bones and teeth, providing structural support. The remaining calcium plays a vital role in metabolic functions.
Vitamin D3 enhances intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphate and helps regulate calcium balance by acting on the intestine, kidneys, and bones. Inadequate vitamin D levels reduce calcium absorption, leading to secondary hyperparathyroidism and bone demineralization. The combination of elemental calcium with vitamin D3 ensures effective calcium utilization and optimal skeletal health.
Elemental calcium replenishes calcium stores required for bone strength and normal physiological functions. Vitamin D3 increases calcium absorption from the gastrointestinal tract and promotes proper bone mineralization. Together, they help prevent hypocalcemia, maintain bone density, and support muscle and nerve function.
Dosage should be individualized based on age, nutritional status, and clinical condition:
Adults: One tablet once or twice daily, or as directed by a physician
Pregnancy and lactation: As prescribed by a healthcare professional
Elderly patients: Dose adjusted according to calcium and vitamin D requirements
A-Cal D Tablet should be taken with meals to improve absorption. Adequate hydration is recommended during therapy.
Calcium may interfere with the absorption of tetracyclines, quinolones, bisphosphonates, and iron supplements. Vitamin D3 may interact with thiazide diuretics, increasing the risk of hypercalcemia. A gap of at least 2 hours is advised when taking interacting medicines.
A-Cal D Tablet is contraindicated in patients with:
Hypercalcemia or hypervitaminosis D
Severe renal impairment
Nephrolithiasis (kidney stones)
Hyperparathyroidism
The formulation is generally well tolerated. Possible side effects include mild gastrointestinal discomfort, constipation, nausea, bloating, or abdominal pain, particularly at higher doses.
