Alclor Suspension 125 mg/5 ml contains Cefaclor Monohydrate, a second-generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic used for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections, particularly in pediatric patients. Cefaclor is effective against many gram-positive and gram-negative organisms and is commonly prescribed for respiratory tract, ear, skin, and urinary tract infections. The suspension formulation allows for accurate dosing and ease of administration in children.

Alclor Suspension 125 mg/5 ml is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate infections caused by susceptible organisms, including:
Upper respiratory tract infections
Lower respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia
Acute otitis media
Pharyngitis and tonsillitis
Skin and soft tissue infections
Urinary tract infections
Antibiotic therapy should be guided by culture and sensitivity testing whenever possible.
Second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic
Cefaclor exerts its antibacterial activity by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins, disrupting the formation of peptidoglycan, an essential component of the bacterial cell wall. This leads to weakening of the cell wall, resulting in bacterial lysis and cell death. Cefaclor is effective against a broad range of pathogens and demonstrates stability against certain beta-lactamase enzymes.
Alclor Suspension is administered orally.
The usual pediatric dose is determined based on body weight and severity of infection
The suspension should be shaken well before each dose
May be taken with or without food; taking with food may reduce gastrointestinal discomfort
Use a calibrated measuring device for accurate dosing
The full course of therapy should be completed as prescribed, even if symptoms improve.
Concomitant use with anticoagulants may increase the risk of bleeding. Probenecid may increase Cefaclor levels by reducing renal excretion. No significant interactions are usually observed with commonly used pediatric medications.
Alclor Suspension 125 mg/5 ml is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Cefaclor, other cephalosporins, or any component of the formulation.
Common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and skin rash. Rare but serious adverse reactions may include allergic reactions, serum sickness-like reactions, and pseudomembranous colitis.
Caution is advised in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis. Patients with known penicillin allergy should be monitored carefully due to possible cross-reactivity. Prolonged use may lead to overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms.
