Alendon Tablet 10 mg contains alendronic acid, a bisphosphonate used in the prevention and treatment of bone disorders characterized by increased bone loss. It is primarily prescribed for the management of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and in men, as well as for osteoporosis associated with long-term corticosteroid therapy. Alendon Tablet 10 mg works by strengthening bones, increasing bone mineral density, and reducing the risk of fractures, particularly of the spine and hip.

Bisphosphonate / Drugs for Bone Diseases
Alendon Tablet 10 mg is indicated for:
Treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women
Treatment of osteoporosis in men at increased risk of fracture
Treatment and prevention of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis in patients receiving long-term corticosteroid therapy
Treatment of Paget’s disease of bone
Alendronic acid belongs to the bisphosphonate class of medicines, which act directly on bone metabolism. It has a high affinity for hydroxyapatite crystals in bone, particularly at sites of active bone resorption. Alendronic acid inhibits the activity of osteoclasts, the cells responsible for bone breakdown. By reducing osteoclastic bone resorption, it helps restore a more balanced bone remodeling process.
As bone resorption decreases, bone mineral density gradually increases, leading to stronger bones and a reduced risk of fractures. Alendronic acid does not impair bone formation; instead, it allows osteoblast-mediated bone formation to continue while suppressing excessive bone loss.
The usual recommended dose of Alendon Tablet is 10 mg once daily, taken orally.
For optimal absorption and to reduce the risk of esophageal irritation:
The tablet should be taken in the morning on an empty stomach
Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of plain water
Do not chew, crush, or suck the tablet
The patient should remain upright (sitting or standing) for at least 30 minutes after taking the tablet
Avoid eating, drinking, or taking other medications for at least 30 minutes after administration
Dosage adjustments are generally not required in patients with mild to moderate renal impairment, but use is not recommended in severe renal impairment.
Alendon Tablet 10 mg is contraindicated in patients with:
Hypersensitivity to alendronic acid or any excipient
Abnormalities of the esophagus that delay emptying, such as stricture or achalasia
Inability to stand or sit upright for at least 30 minutes
Hypocalcemia
Alendon Tablet 10 mg is generally well tolerated when taken as directed. Common side effects may include abdominal pain, dyspepsia, acid reflux, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, and musculoskeletal pain. Rare but serious adverse effects include esophagitis, esophageal ulceration, osteonecrosis of the jaw, atypical femoral fractures, and severe bone, joint, or muscle pain.

Before starting therapy, hypocalcemia and vitamin D deficiency should be corrected. Patients should ensure adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D during treatment. Caution is advised in patients with gastrointestinal disorders such as gastritis or peptic ulcer disease. Proper administration instructions must be followed strictly to minimize the risk of esophageal irritation.
Alendronic acid is not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as there are insufficient data to establish safety in these populations.
Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
