Avifanz Tablet 600 mg contains Efavirenz, a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) widely used in the treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus type-1 (HIV-1) infection. Efavirenz is a key component of antiretroviral therapy (ART) and is usually prescribed in combination with other antiretroviral medicines to achieve effective viral suppression and improve immune function.

Avifanz Tablet 600 mg is indicated for:
Treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and adolescents
Use as part of combination antiretroviral therapy (ART)
Long-term management of HIV to reduce viral load and delay disease progression
Efavirenz does not cure HIV but helps control the virus and reduces the risk of HIV-related complications.
Efavirenz works by selectively inhibiting HIV-1 reverse transcriptase, an enzyme essential for viral replication. It binds directly to the enzyme and blocks the conversion of viral RNA into DNA. This prevents the virus from multiplying within human immune cells, leading to:
Reduced viral replication
Lower plasma HIV viral load
Preservation and improvement of CD4 cell counts
Efavirenz has no significant activity against HIV-2.
The usual recommended dose is 600 mg once daily.
Avifanz Tablet should be taken on an empty stomach, preferably at bedtime, to reduce central nervous system (CNS) side effects.
It must always be used in combination with other antiretroviral agents.
Patients should take the medicine regularly as prescribed to avoid treatment failure and resistance.
