Epilep CR Tablet 200 mg contains Carbamazepine in a controlled-release (CR) formulation, designed to provide sustained therapeutic levels over an extended period. This formulation is primarily used in the long-term management of epilepsy, neuropathic pain, and certain mood disorders. By releasing the active ingredient gradually, Epilep CR Tablet helps maintain stable blood concentrations, reduces dosing frequency, and improves patient compliance while minimizing peak-related side effects.

Carbamazepine (200 mg, Controlled Release)
Carbamazepine is an antiepileptic and neurotropic drug that works by blocking voltage-dependent sodium channels in neuronal cell membranes. This action stabilizes hyperexcited nerve membranes, inhibits repetitive neuronal firing, and reduces the propagation of abnormal electrical impulses in the brain. In the controlled-release formulation, Carbamazepine is released slowly, ensuring consistent drug levels and sustained therapeutic action throughout the day.
In addition to seizure control, Carbamazepine modulates pain transmission pathways, making it effective in neuropathic pain syndromes. It also exhibits mood-stabilizing properties that are beneficial in selected psychiatric conditions.
Epilep CR Tablet 200 mg is indicated for the treatment of:
Partial (focal) seizures with or without secondary generalization
Generalized tonic-clonic seizures
Trigeminal neuralgia and other facial pain syndromes
Neuropathic pain, including diabetic neuropathy
Bipolar disorder, particularly for the management of manic episodes
Controlled-release formulation ensures steady plasma drug levels
Reduces seizure frequency and severity with sustained control
Minimizes fluctuations that may cause side effects
Improves adherence through reduced dosing frequency
Effective in both neurological and neuropathic pain conditions
The dosage of Epilep CR Tablet should be individualized according to the patient’s age, clinical condition, and therapeutic response. Treatment is typically initiated at a low dose and gradually titrated to achieve optimal control. The tablet should be swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed, as this may interfere with the controlled-release mechanism. It is recommended to take the tablet with meals to reduce gastrointestinal irritation.
Regular monitoring of blood counts and liver function is recommended during long-term therapy.
Use with caution in patients with hepatic, renal, or cardiovascular disorders.
Not recommended in patients with a history of bone marrow suppression.
Abrupt discontinuation should be avoided, as it may precipitate seizures.
Patients should promptly report symptoms such as skin rash, fever, sore throat, or unusual bruising.
Common side effects may include dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, and lack of coordination. Less common but serious reactions include blood dyscrasias, liver enzyme elevation, and severe skin reactions. Most adverse effects are dose-related and can be minimized with careful dose adjustment and monitoring.
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
