Hepagurd 3 gm is a therapeutic preparation designed to support liver function and manage complications associated with liver diseases. It contains L-Ornithine and L-Aspartate, two endogenous amino acids that play a crucial role in detoxification, ammonia metabolism, and liver cell regeneration.

Hepagurd 3 gm is indicated for the treatment and management of:
Hepatic Encephalopathy
Acute Liver Failure
Hyperammonemia caused by acute or chronic hepatitis
Fatty Liver Disease
Alcoholic Liver Damage
As an adjunct during therapy with hepatotoxic drugs
Liver Cirrhosis
Post-hepatitis convalescence
Hepagurd 3 gm is a stable combination of L-Ornithine and L-Aspartate:
L-Ornithine: Acts as a substrate in the urea cycle, converting toxic ammonia into non-toxic urea, which is eliminated by the kidneys, reducing hyperammonemia.
L-Aspartate: An essential component of the citric acid cycle, which generates energy (ATP) and supports regeneration of damaged liver cells.
This dual mechanism improves detoxification, liver metabolism, and overall liver function, making it effective in conditions associated with elevated ammonia levels.
Oral (Sachet/Granules):
1–2 sachets dissolved in a glass of water or juice
Taken 3 times daily during or after meals
Intravenous (Infusion Concentrate):
Up to 20 gm (4 ampoules daily)
In severe cases (pre-coma or coma), up to 8 ampoules in 24 hours depending on severity
Can be added to conventional IV fluids like 0.9% Sodium Chloride, 5% Dextrose, or Ringer's lactate
Normal dilution: 1 ampoule per 100 ml fluid
Maximum infusion rate: 5 gm/hour
No known drug interactions have been reported
Very rare: nausea and vomiting
Generally well-tolerated, transient, and do not require discontinuation
Regular monitoring of serum and urinary urea levels is recommended
Avoid use in pregnancy and lactation
Store in a cool, dry place
Protect from light
Keep out of reach of children
L-Ornithine: Supports the urea cycle, converting ammonia into urea, reducing blood ammonia levels.
L-Aspartate: Enters the citric acid cycle, producing ATP and helping in regeneration of liver cells.
Overall: Helps the liver carry out normal detoxification processes efficiently and promotes recovery in liver diseases.
