Kerasol 6% exerts a potent keratolytic effect along with a mild antiseptic action when applied topically. At lower concentrations, it exhibits keratoplastic activity, helping normalize abnormal keratinization of the skin. At higher concentrations, it demonstrates keratolytic activity, promoting exfoliation and peeling of the outer skin layers.
The drug softens and breaks down the stratum corneum by increasing endogenous hydration, likely through lowering skin pH. This causes the hardened epidermal layer to swell, soften, and gradually shed. Adequate moisture is essential for optimal action, as hydration enhances maceration and desquamation of the affected skin. Kerasol 6% also has weak antibacterial and antifungal properties, contributing to improved skin hygiene. Overuse or excessive concentration may lead to irritation or necrosis of normal skin.
