Levopa Tablet 100 mg + 10 mg is a combination medicine containing Levodopa and Carbidopa, used primarily in the management of Parkinson’s disease and related movement disorders. This dual formulation helps improve motor function, reduce tremors, and enhance overall quality of life in patients suffering from dopamine deficiency.
Parkinson’s disease is characterized by reduced levels of dopamine in the brain, leading to symptoms such as tremor, rigidity, slowed movements, and impaired balance. Levopa Tablet works by restoring dopamine levels and optimizing its availability in the central nervous system. The addition of Carbidopa enhances the effectiveness of Levodopa and minimizes certain side effects.

Antiparkinsonian Agent – Dopamine Precursor Combination
Levopa Tablet 100 mg + 10 mg is indicated for:
Treatment of Parkinson’s disease
Management of parkinsonism of various origins, including post-encephalitic parkinsonism
Symptomatic relief of rigidity, tremor, bradykinesia (slowness of movement), and postural instability
It helps improve motor performance and daily functioning in patients with movement disorders.
Levodopa is a precursor of dopamine that crosses the blood-brain barrier and is converted into dopamine in the brain. Dopamine plays a crucial role in coordinating smooth and purposeful muscle movements.
However, when given alone, a significant portion of Levodopa is converted to dopamine outside the brain, which may cause side effects such as nausea and vomiting.
Carbidopa is a peripheral dopa-decarboxylase inhibitor. It prevents the breakdown of Levodopa in peripheral tissues, allowing more Levodopa to reach the brain. This combination results in:
Increased availability of dopamine in the central nervous system
Improved control of motor symptoms
Reduced peripheral side effects
Lower required doses of Levodopa
Together, Levodopa and Carbidopa provide effective and sustained symptom management in Parkinson’s disease.
The dosage should be individualized based on disease severity and patient response.
Typically taken two to three times daily, or as prescribed by a physician
Swallow the tablet whole with water
Can be taken with or without food; however, high-protein meals may reduce absorption
Dose adjustments may be required over time
Patients should follow the prescribed schedule carefully and avoid abrupt discontinuation without medical advice.
Use cautiously in patients with cardiovascular disease, glaucoma, or psychiatric disorders
Monitor for involuntary movements or behavioral changes
Inform the physician about all other medications being taken
Not recommended in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma
Regular medical follow-up is necessary to monitor response and side effects
Common side effects may include:
Nausea and vomiting
Dizziness
Headache
Involuntary movements (dyskinesia)
Orthostatic hypotension
Mood changes or confusion
Most side effects can be managed with proper dose adjustment. Seek medical advice if severe symptoms occur.
