4-Quinolone Antibiotic
Levoxin contains Levofloxacin, the L-isomer of ofloxacin. It works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. This action disrupts bacterial cell division and results in bactericidal activity.
Levoxin exhibits excellent tissue penetration and has activity against a wide range of pathogens including:
Streptococcus pneumoniae
Haemophilus influenzae
Staphylococcus aureus (non-MRSA)
Escherichia coli
Klebsiella spp.
It is particularly useful in infections where other antibiotics may fail due to resistance.
Levoxin 500 mg/100 ml is indicated for the treatment of:
Respiratory tract infections: Acute bacterial sinusitis, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia, and nosocomial pneumonia
Skin and soft tissue infections: Uncomplicated and complicated infections
Urinary tract infections: Uncomplicated and complicated infections
Chronic bacterial prostatitis
Acute sinusitis: 500 mg once daily for 10–14 days
Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis: 250–500 mg once daily for 7–10 days
Community-acquired pneumonia: 500 mg once or twice daily for 7–14 days
Nosocomial pneumonia: 750 mg once daily for 7–14 days
Skin & soft tissue infections: 500 mg once or twice daily for 7–14 days
Chronic prostatitis: 500 mg once daily for 28 days
Urinary tract infections: 250 mg once daily for 7–10 days; 3 days for uncomplicated infections
Levoxin is administered orally, with or without food. Adequate fluid intake is recommended during therapy to prevent crystalluria.

Store in a dry, cool place away from light and heat, below 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
Levoxin acts by inhibiting bacterial DNA replication enzymes, resulting in rapid bacterial cell death. Its broad-spectrum activity makes it effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens commonly responsible for respiratory, urinary, skin, and soft tissue infections.
