Liptor Tablet 20 mg contains Atorvastatin Calcium, a widely prescribed statin used to manage high cholesterol and prevent cardiovascular disease. It works by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, a key enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis in the liver. By reducing cholesterol production, Liptor lowers low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and total cholesterol while modestly increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels and reducing triglycerides.
Liptor 20 mg is indicated for adults with hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia, and other lipid disorders. It is particularly beneficial for patients with a high risk of cardiovascular events, including those with diabetes, hypertension, or a history of heart disease. By improving lipid profiles, Liptor helps reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and atherosclerosis.

HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitor (Statin)
Liptor Tablet 20 mg is indicated for:
Primary hypercholesterolemia (Type IIa) and mixed dyslipidemia (Type IIb)
Familial hypercholesterolemia (heterozygous) as adjunct to diet and lifestyle changes
Hypertriglyceridemia to reduce elevated triglyceride levels
Prevention of cardiovascular disease in patients with risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, or a history of coronary heart disease
Atherosclerotic plaque stabilization to slow progression of coronary artery disease
It is recommended that therapy be combined with a cholesterol-lowering diet, exercise, and lifestyle modifications for optimal results.
Mechanism of Action:
Atorvastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, reducing hepatic cholesterol synthesis
Lowers plasma LDL and total cholesterol levels
Reduces triglycerides and increases HDL cholesterol moderately
Improves endothelial function and stabilizes atherosclerotic plaques
Reduces inflammation and oxidative stress in blood vessels, providing cardiovascular protection
Clinical Benefits:
Significant reduction in LDL cholesterol levels
Lowered total cholesterol and triglycerides
Improved HDL cholesterol levels
Decreased risk of cardiovascular events, including myocardial infarction and stroke
Adults: 10–80 mg once daily, usually starting at 10–20 mg
Take with or without food, preferably at the same time each day
Dose should be individualized based on lipid levels, therapeutic response, and tolerability
Monitor lipid profiles and liver function tests regularly
Lifestyle modifications (diet, exercise, weight control) should continue during therapy
Monitor liver function tests prior to initiation and periodically during treatment
Use caution in patients with liver disease or heavy alcohol consumption
Report muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, which may indicate myopathy
Avoid concurrent use of strong CYP3A4 inhibitors unless under strict supervision
Common: headache, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, nausea
Musculoskeletal: myalgia, mild muscle weakness
Rare: myopathy, rhabdomyolysis
Liver enzyme elevation may occur; monitor regularly
Hypersensitivity to atorvastatin or any component of the formulation
Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of liver enzymes
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Co-administration with certain drugs that significantly increase risk of myopathy
Pregnancy Category X: contraindicated due to potential fetal harm
Not recommended during breastfeeding
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
