Losart Plus Tablet is a fixed-dose combination antihypertensive medication containing Losartan Potassium, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), and Hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic. This dual-mechanism therapy is designed to provide more effective blood pressure control in patients whose hypertension is not adequately managed by monotherapy alone.
By combining two complementary mechanisms of action, Losart Plus helps reduce blood pressure, decrease cardiovascular risk, and protect vital organs such as the heart, brain, and kidneys. It is particularly beneficial in patients requiring combination therapy to achieve target blood pressure levels.

Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB)
Thiazide Diuretic
Combination Antihypertensive
Losart Plus Tablet is indicated for:
Essential Hypertension:
For patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with Losartan or Hydrochlorothiazide alone.
Reduction of Cardiovascular Risk:
Helps lower the risk of stroke and other cardiovascular complications associated with uncontrolled hypertension.
Losartan Potassium:
Selectively blocks the AT1 receptor, preventing angiotensin II–mediated vasoconstriction.
Reduces aldosterone secretion, decreasing sodium and water retention.
Lowers systemic vascular resistance and blood pressure.
Provides renal protection, especially in diabetic patients.
Hydrochlorothiazide:
Acts on the distal renal tubules to inhibit sodium and chloride reabsorption.
Increases urine output (diuresis), reducing plasma volume.
Decreases peripheral vascular resistance over time.
Combined Effect:
The combination produces an additive antihypertensive effect, improving blood pressure control more effectively than either component alone.
The usual recommended dose is one tablet once daily.
Dosage should be individualized based on patient response.
Can be taken with or without food.
Blood pressure should be monitored regularly during therapy.
Patients previously treated with Losartan or Hydrochlorothiazide alone may be switched to this combination for improved control.
Potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics: May increase risk of hyperkalemia.
NSAIDs: May reduce antihypertensive effect and increase risk of renal impairment.
Lithium: May increase lithium levels and toxicity.
Other antihypertensives: Additive blood pressure–lowering effects.
Corticosteroids or ACTH: May increase electrolyte imbalance risk.
Hypersensitivity to Losartan, Hydrochlorothiazide, or sulfonamide-derived drugs
Pregnancy
Severe renal impairment or anuria
Concomitant use with Aliskiren in diabetic patients
Common side effects may include:
Dizziness or lightheadedness
Fatigue
Hypotension
Electrolyte imbalance (e.g., low potassium or sodium)
Increased urination
Headache
Less common:
Hyperkalemia
Elevated uric acid levels
Gastrointestinal discomfort
Monitor renal function and electrolytes regularly.
Risk of symptomatic hypotension in volume-depleted patients.
Avoid during pregnancy due to risk of fetal harm.
Use caution in patients with hepatic or renal impairment.
May increase sensitivity to sunlight (due to Hydrochlorothiazide).
Contraindicated in pregnancy (Category D).
Not recommended during breastfeeding unless clearly necessary.
Store below 30°C.
Protect from heat, light, and moisture.
Keep out of reach of children.
Losart Plus 100 mg + 12.5 mg Tablet offers effective dual-action blood pressure control through the combined benefits of an ARB and a thiazide diuretic, helping reduce cardiovascular risk and improve long-term hypertension management.
