Losucon 1 mg is an oral antidiabetic medication from the sulfonylurea group, indicated for the management of Type II diabetes mellitus (non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus, NIDDM). It is prescribed when adequate blood glucose control cannot be achieved through diet and exercise alone. Losucon 1 mg helps maintain stable glycaemic control and supports long-term diabetes management.

Losucon 1 mg is indicated in the following conditions:
As an adjunct to diet and exercise to reduce blood glucose levels in patients with Type II diabetes mellitus whose hyperglycaemia is inadequately controlled by lifestyle modification alone.
In combination with metformin when diet, exercise, and monotherapy with either Losucon 1 mg or metformin fail to achieve adequate glycaemic control.
In combination with insulin to lower blood glucose levels in patients whose diabetes cannot be controlled with diet, exercise, and oral hypoglycaemic agents. Combined use with insulin may increase the risk of hypoglycaemia.
Sulfonylureas
Losucon 1 mg works primarily by stimulating insulin release from functioning pancreatic beta cells. It also reduces hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity at peripheral tissues, enhancing glucose uptake. In non-fasting diabetic patients, a single dose may exert a hypoglycaemic effect lasting up to 24 hours.
The dosage of Losucon 1 mg should be individualized according to blood glucose levels.
Initial dose: Usually 1 mg once daily.
Dose titration: If required, the dose may be increased gradually at intervals of 1–2 weeks based on blood glucose monitoring (1 mg → 2 mg → 3 mg → 4 mg → up to 6 mg daily).
Maintenance dose: In well-controlled patients, the usual daily dose ranges from 1 to 4 mg.
Losucon 1 mg is typically taken once daily immediately before or with the first main meal. Skipping meals after taking the medication should be avoided. Dose adjustments may be necessary with changes in body weight, lifestyle, or improved glycaemic control.
Losucon 1 mg may interact with several medicines. Drugs such as insulin, other oral antidiabetics, ACE inhibitors, salicylates, sulfonamide antibiotics, fluconazole, and quinolones may enhance its hypoglycaemic effect. Corticosteroids, diuretics, thyroid hormones, and sympathomimetic agents may reduce its glucose-lowering action. Alcohol consumption may unpredictably increase or decrease its effect.
