Nitrosol SR Tablet 2.6 mg is a sustained-release formulation of Nitroglycerin, widely used for the prevention and long-term management of angina pectoris associated with coronary artery disease. This prolonged-action nitrate is designed to provide continuous therapeutic levels of nitroglycerin over an extended period, helping to reduce the frequency and severity of anginal attacks and improve exercise tolerance in patients with ischemic heart disease.
Unlike immediate-release nitrates used for acute angina relief, Nitrosol SR Tablet 2.6 mg is intended for regular prophylactic use. By maintaining steady vasodilatory effects, it reduces myocardial oxygen demand and enhances coronary blood flow, thereby supporting better cardiac performance and symptom control.

Nitrosol SR Tablet 2.6 mg is indicated for:
Prophylaxis and long-term prevention of angina pectoris
Management of chronic stable angina due to coronary artery disease
It is not intended for the immediate relief of acute anginal attacks.
Nitrates: Coronary Vasodilators
Nitroglycerin, the active ingredient of Nitrosol SR Tablet 2.6 mg, is converted in the body to nitric oxide (NO). Nitric oxide activates guanylate cyclase, increasing intracellular levels of cyclic guanosine 3’,5’ monophosphate (cGMP). Elevated cGMP causes relaxation of vascular smooth muscle through dephosphorylation of myosin light chains, resulting in vasodilatation.
Venous dilation predominates, leading to reduced venous return (preload) and decreased myocardial oxygen demand. Arterial dilation reduces systemic vascular resistance (afterload), further lowering cardiac workload. Additionally, dilation of coronary arteries improves blood flow to ischemic areas of the myocardium, helping to prevent anginal symptoms.
The sustained-release formulation ensures gradual and prolonged drug release, providing extended protection against angina.

Dosage should be individualized according to patient response and clinical condition.
Nitrosol SR Tablet 2.6 mg is usually taken once or twice daily, as prescribed by a physician
Tablets should be swallowed whole with water and should not be crushed or chewed
A nitrate-free interval may be recommended to reduce the risk of tolerance
Patients should follow their healthcare provider’s instructions carefully.
Caution is required when Nitrosol SR Tablet 2.6 mg is used with:
Antihypertensive agents, beta-blockers, or calcium channel blockers due to additive hypotensive effects
Alcohol, which may enhance vasodilatation and hypotension
Phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors such as sildenafil, tadalafil, or vardenafil, as concurrent use may cause severe and potentially life-threatening hypotension
Nitrosol SR Tablet 2.6 mg is contraindicated in patients with:
Hypersensitivity to nitroglycerin or other nitrates
Severe anemia
Increased intracranial pressure
Hypotension or circulatory shock
Concomitant use of phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors
Common side effects may include:
Headache
Dizziness or light-headedness
Flushing
Hypotension
Palpitations
Headache is the most frequently reported adverse effect and is usually dose-related.
Nitrosol SR Tablet 2.6 mg should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician. It is not known whether nitroglycerin is excreted in human breast milk; caution is advised during lactation.
Use the lowest effective dose to minimize tolerance
Sudden discontinuation should be avoided
Use with caution in patients with volume depletion or low blood pressure
Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
