Obexa Tablet 5 mg contains Obeticholic Acid, a selective farnesoid X receptor (FXR) agonist used in the treatment of primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), a chronic autoimmune liver disorder that causes progressive destruction of the bile ducts. It is prescribed for adult patients who have an inadequate response to ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) or who cannot tolerate UDCA therapy.
Obeticholic Acid works by regulating bile acid synthesis and transport within the liver. By reducing bile acid accumulation and improving bile flow, it helps decrease liver inflammation and may slow the progression of liver damage.

Reduces bile acid buildup in the liver
Improves liver function test parameters
Slows progression of primary biliary cholangitis
Can be used alone or alongside UDCA
Supports long-term liver disease management
Obexa Tablet 5 mg is indicated for:
Treatment of primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) in adults
In combination with ursodeoxycholic acid in patients with inadequate response
As monotherapy in patients intolerant to ursodeoxycholic acid.
The recommended starting dose is 5 mg once daily.
Depending on tolerability and biochemical response, the dose may be increased as directed by a healthcare provider.
May be taken with or without food.
Regular monitoring of liver function tests is essential during treatment.
Dose adjustments are required in patients with moderate to severe hepatic impairment, and careful supervision is necessary.
Obeticholic Acid activates the farnesoid X receptor (FXR), a nuclear receptor that regulates bile acid homeostasis. Activation of FXR leads to:
Decreased bile acid synthesis
Increased bile acid transport and excretion
Reduced liver inflammation and fibrosis
These effects help improve biochemical markers and may delay disease progression in PBC patients.

Use cautiously in patients with hepatic impairment
Common side effects may include:
Itching (pruritus)
Fatigue
