Proceptin 20 mg is a potent proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used for the treatment and prevention of a wide range of acid-related gastrointestinal disorders. It works by selectively inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system in gastric parietal cells, effectively reducing gastric acid secretion. The medication provides rapid relief from symptoms such as heartburn, acid reflux, and epigastric discomfort while promoting healing of gastric and duodenal ulcers.
Proceptin is indicated for conditions including duodenal and gastric ulcers, NSAID-associated ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), dyspepsia, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and Helicobacter pylori eradication. Its long-lasting antisecretory effect, which may persist up to 72 hours, makes it highly effective for both short-term treatment and long-term management of acid-related disorders.

Proceptin 20 mg is indicated for:
Duodenal and gastric ulcers
NSAID-induced gastric or duodenal ulcers and as preventive therapy in high-risk patients
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), including severe reflux esophagitis with ulcers
Acid-related dyspepsia
Prevention of acid aspiration during general anesthesia
Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (ZES)
Peptic ulcer disease associated with Helicobacter pylori, in combination with antimicrobial therapy
Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI)
Proceptin 20 mg is a benzimidazole derivative that inhibits gastric acid secretion by blocking the hydrogen-potassium ATPase pump in parietal cells. After oral administration, it begins to reduce acid secretion within one hour, peaks at two hours, and can maintain acid suppression for up to 72 hours. Acid secretion gradually returns to normal within 3–5 days after discontinuation. This mechanism promotes healing of ulcers and provides symptomatic relief from acid-related gastrointestinal conditions.
Oral:
Duodenal ulcer: 20 mg once daily for 4 weeks (may extend or increase to 40 mg in severe cases)
Gastric ulcer: 20 mg once daily for 8 weeks; maintenance: 20 mg daily
NSAID-induced ulcer: 20 mg once daily for 4–8 weeks; prophylaxis: 20 mg once daily
GERD: 20 mg once daily for 4–8 weeks; refractory cases: 40 mg once daily
Long-term management: 10–20 mg daily
Acid aspiration prophylaxis: 40 mg evening prior and 40 mg 2–6 hours before surgery
Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: Initial dose 60 mg daily; adjust 20–120 mg as needed
Helicobacter pylori eradication: 20 mg twice daily with antibiotics
Intravenous (IV) Administration:
Prophylaxis of acid aspiration: 40 mg IV slowly, 1 hour before surgery
Duodenal/gastric ulcer or reflux esophagitis: 40 mg IV once daily if oral administration is not possible
Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: 60 mg IV daily, higher doses individually adjusted
May increase plasma levels of warfarin, phenytoin, or diazepam; dose adjustments may be needed
No significant interaction with theophylline, propranolol, or antacids
Known hypersensitivity to Proceptin or any of its ingredients
Generally well tolerated
Mild and temporary: nausea, stomach cramping, paresthesia, dizziness, headache
Pregnancy Category C (FDA): Use only if clearly needed; no adverse effects observed in studies
Unknown if excreted in breast milk; breastfeeding should be discontinued if treatment is necessary
Rule out gastric malignancy before starting therapy, as symptom relief may mask underlying cancer
Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment
Store in a dry place, away from heat and light. Keep out of reach of children.
Proceptin 20 mg inhibits the H+/K+ ATPase pump in gastric parietal cells, blocking gastric acid secretion. It begins acting within one hour, peaks in two hours, and provides sustained acid suppression for up to 72 hours, helping heal ulcers and control acid-related symptoms.
