Respira Tablet 1 mg contains Levosalbutamol, the R-enantiomer of salbutamol, a selective β2-adrenergic receptor agonist used for the management of respiratory conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and bronchospasm. Levosalbutamol acts by relaxing bronchial smooth muscles, leading to bronchodilation and improved airflow, making it easier for patients to breathe.
As an oral formulation, Respira Tablet is particularly useful for patients who are unable to use inhalation therapy consistently or require adjunct therapy for long-term management of bronchospastic disorders. Compared to racemic salbutamol, levosalbutamol provides similar bronchodilation with potentially fewer cardiovascular side effects due to its selective β2 activity.

Selective β2-Adrenergic Receptor Agonist (Bronchodilator)
Respira Tablet 1 mg is indicated for:
Asthma: For prevention and treatment of bronchospasm in adults and children
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): Relief of reversible airflow obstruction
Exercise-Induced Bronchospasm: Prevention of exercise-related bronchospasm in susceptible patients
Other Bronchospastic Disorders: Where bronchodilation is therapeutically beneficial
Levosalbutamol selectively binds to β2-adrenergic receptors in bronchial smooth muscle, activating adenylate cyclase and increasing cyclic AMP levels. This results in relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle, decreased airway resistance, and bronchodilation. Unlike non-selective β-agonists, levosalbutamol has minimal activity on β1 receptors in the heart, reducing the risk of tachycardia and other cardiovascular side effects.
Levosalbutamol is rapidly absorbed after oral administration, metabolized primarily in the liver, and excreted mainly in the urine. Its bronchodilator effect typically begins within 30–60 minutes, lasting for 6–8 hours, making it suitable for maintenance therapy and symptom relief.
Selective β2 stimulation: Causes relaxation of bronchial smooth muscles
Increases cyclic AMP: Reduces intracellular calcium, promoting bronchodilation
Improves airflow: Reduces wheezing, shortness of breath, and bronchospasm
Usual Adult Dose: 1 mg orally two to three times daily, as directed by a physician
Pediatric Dose: Determined by age and weight; follow physician’s guidance
Administration: Can be taken with or without food
Adjustment: Dose may be modified based on severity of symptoms and clinical response
Monitoring: Patients should be monitored for effectiveness and potential side effects
Non-selective β-blockers: May reduce bronchodilator effect
Diuretics: May potentiate hypokalemia
MAO inhibitors or tricyclic antidepressants: May increase risk of cardiovascular side effects
Other sympathomimetics: Caution for additive effects
Hypersensitivity to levosalbutamol or any component of the tablet
Severe cardiac disorders (e.g., arrhythmias, tachycardia) requiring caution
Common side effects include:
Tremor or muscle cramps
Headache
Palpitations or mild tachycardia
Nervousness or restlessness
Gastrointestinal discomfort
Rare side effects may include hypersensitivity reactions, arrhythmias, or hypokalemia. Most adverse effects are mild and dose-dependent.
Pregnancy: Use only if clearly needed; no well-controlled human studies available
Lactation: Small amounts may be excreted in breast milk; weigh the benefits against potential risks
Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disorders, hyperthyroidism, or diabetes
Monitor heart rate and blood pressure during therapy
Avoid abrupt discontinuation in chronic therapy
Patients experiencing severe tremors, chest pain, or palpitations should seek medical attention
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C.
Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
