Sliptin-M Tablet 50 mg+1000 mg is a combination oral anti-diabetic medicine that contains Sitagliptin 50 mg and Metformin Hydrochloride 1000 mg. It is commonly prescribed for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet, exercise, or single-drug therapy alone is not sufficient to control blood sugar levels. This fixed-dose combination helps improve glycemic control through two complementary mechanisms of action.

Sitagliptin belongs to a class of medicines known as DPP-4 (dipeptidyl peptidase-4) inhibitors. It works by increasing the levels of incretin hormones in the body. These hormones stimulate insulin release from the pancreas in response to meals and reduce the amount of glucose produced by the liver. Sitagliptin helps lower both fasting and post-meal blood glucose levels with a low risk of causing hypoglycemia when used alone.
Metformin Hydrochloride is a biguanide anti-diabetic agent and is considered first-line therapy for type 2 diabetes. It works primarily by decreasing hepatic glucose production (gluconeogenesis), reducing intestinal absorption of glucose, and improving insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues such as muscles. This helps the body utilize insulin more effectively.
When combined, sitagliptin and metformin provide better blood sugar control than either medicine alone.
Sliptin-M 50 mg+1000 mg is indicated for:
Adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus
Patients whose blood sugar is not adequately controlled with metformin alone
Patients already taking sitagliptin and metformin separately and requiring combination therapy
It is not used for type 1 diabetes or for treating diabetic ketoacidosis.
The dosage is determined by the physician based on the patient’s current treatment, blood glucose levels, and kidney function. It is usually taken once or twice daily with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects caused by metformin. Tablets should be swallowed whole with water and not crushed or chewed.
Common side effects may include:
Nausea
Diarrhea
Stomach discomfort
Headache
Upper respiratory tract infection
Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis, a serious but uncommon condition, especially in patients with kidney impairment. Sitagliptin may rarely cause pancreatitis or severe joint pain. Patients should seek medical attention if they experience severe abdominal pain, difficulty breathing, or unusual muscle pain.
