Turbocef 500 mg contains Cefuroxime, a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic known for its broad-spectrum bactericidal activity. It is effective against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including many β-lactamase–producing strains. Turbocef 500 mg is commonly prescribed for moderate to severe bacterial infections involving the respiratory tract, skin, urinary tract, bones, joints, and other systemic infections.

Turbocef 500 mg is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible organisms, including:
Upper respiratory tract infections
Pharyngitis and tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes
Acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae (non β-lactamase producing strains)
Ear infections
Acute bacterial otitis media caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis (β-lactamase producing strains), or Streptococcus pyogenes
Lower respiratory tract infections
Community-acquired pneumonia
Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
Secondary bacterial infections of acute bronchitis caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae (β-lactamase negative strains), or Haemophilus parainfluenzae
Skin and soft tissue infections
Caused by Staphylococcus aureus (including β-lactamase producing strains) or Streptococcus pyogenes
Urinary tract infections
Caused by Escherichia coli or Klebsiella pneumoniae
Bone and joint infections
Caused by Staphylococcus aureus (penicillinase- and non-penicillinase-producing strains)
Sexually transmitted infections
Gonorrhoea caused by penicillinase-producing and non-penicillinase producing strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae
Other infections
Early Lyme disease (erythema migrans) caused by Borrelia burgdorferi
Multidrug-resistant typhoid fever
Cefuroxime acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, resulting in cell death. It demonstrates high stability against bacterial β-lactamase enzymes, making it effective against many ampicillin- and amoxicillin-resistant organisms.
