Pharmacology

Xenogrow 2% promotes hair growth by increasing the supply of oxygen, blood, and nutrients to hair follicles through vasodilation. It also helps reduce the effect of androgen hormones on hair follicles, which play a key role in patterned hair loss.

After topical application on a healthy scalp, approximately 1.4% of the applied dose is absorbed systemically. Absorption may increase with higher doses, more frequent application, or compromised scalp barrier function. Systemic levels depend on the rate of skin absorption. About 95% of the absorbed drug is eliminated within four days after discontinuation, primarily through urinary excretion.

Mode of Action

Xenogrow 2% widens blood vessels in the scalp, enhancing follicular blood flow and nutrient delivery. This environment supports hair follicle activity and encourages regrowth while slowing further hair loss.

Dosage and Administration

• For external use only

• Apply when the scalp and hair are clean and dry

• Apply 1 ml (approximately 7 sprays) twice daily at 12-hour intervals

• Start application at the center of the affected area and spread evenly

• Maximum daily dose should not exceed 2 ml

For optimal results:

• Allow the solution to remain on the scalp for at least 4 hours before washing

• Apply the night dose 2–4 hours before bedtime to allow proper drying

• Do not massage into the scalp

• Do not use a hair dryer to speed up drying

• Do not mix with hair oils

• Wash hands after application

Consistent twice-daily use for at least 4 months may be required to notice visible hair growth. To help arrest hair fall, treatment should continue for a minimum of 45 days. Missed doses should not be doubled.

Drug Interactions

Xenogrow 2% should not be used with other topical agents that disrupt the scalp barrier, such as tretinoin or dithranol, as this may increase systemic absorption. There is a theoretical risk of enhanced orthostatic hypotension when used with peripheral vasodilators.

Contraindications

Xenogrow 2% is contraindicated in:

• Patients with cardiac abnormalities

• Children under 18 years of age

• Patients using occlusive dressings or other scalp medications

• Patients with inflamed, infected, irritated, or painful scalp conditions, including psoriasis or sunburn

Side Effects

Most side effects are mild and localized. Reported reactions include:

• Scalp irritation or dermatitis

• Unwanted hair growth (hypertrichosis)

These effects occur in a small percentage of patients.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Xenogrow 2% topical solution should not be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Precautions and Warnings

• Discontinue use if scalp irritation persists or worsens

• Use strictly as directed to avoid systemic side effects or unwanted hair growth

Overdose Effects

Excessive application or use on large areas may increase systemic absorption. Potential symptoms include fluid retention and tachycardia. Supportive treatment, including diuretics or beta-blockers, may be required if significant systemic effects occur.
