Xyotil 20 mg is an oral antihypertensive medication containing Olmesartan medoxomil, a selective angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It is primarily used for the management of hypertension and helps in achieving effective and sustained blood pressure control. Xyotil 20 mg may be used as monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensive agents to reduce cardiovascular risks associated with high blood pressure.

Angiotensin-II Receptor Blocker (ARB)
Xyotil 20 mg is indicated for:
Treatment of essential hypertension
Blood pressure control as monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensive drugs
Effective management of hypertension with Xyotil 20 mg helps reduce the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and renal complications.
Olmesartan medoxomil is a potent, orally active, and highly selective angiotensin II receptor (AT1 subtype) antagonist. After oral administration, it is rapidly converted to its active form, olmesartan. Angiotensin II plays a key role in the regulation of blood pressure by causing vasoconstriction and stimulating aldosterone secretion. Olmesartan blocks these effects by selectively inhibiting the AT1 receptor, leading to vasodilation, reduced aldosterone levels, and decreased blood pressure.
Unlike ACE inhibitors, olmesartan does not inhibit angiotensin-converting enzyme and therefore does not interfere with bradykinin metabolism, reducing the risk of cough and angioedema.
Adults:
Dosage should be individualized based on patient response
Recommended starting dose: 20 mg once daily
If blood pressure is not adequately controlled after 2 weeks, the dose may be increased to 40 mg once daily
Doses above 40 mg do not provide additional benefit
Xyotil 20 mg may be taken with or without food.
Special Populations:
Elderly patients: No initial dose adjustment required
Pediatric patients: Safety and efficacy have not been established
No clinically significant drug interactions have been reported with olmesartan
Food does not affect the bioavailability of Xyotil 20 mg
Xyotil 20 mg is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to olmesartan medoxomil or any component of the formulation.
Common side effects include:
Headache
Diarrhea
Back pain
Dizziness
Upper respiratory tract infections such as pharyngitis, rhinitis, and sinusitis
Rare side effects include:
Chest pain
Peripheral edema
Arthralgia
Most adverse effects are mild to moderate and transient.
Xyotil 20 mg is contraindicated during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, as drugs affecting the renin-angiotensin system may cause fetal injury or death. The safety of olmesartan during breastfeeding is not established; caution is advised, and a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or the drug.
Use with caution in patients with renal artery stenosis or severe heart failure
Renal function should be monitored in susceptible individuals
Volume-depleted patients should start therapy under close medical supervision
Renal impairment: Maximum recommended dose is 20 mg daily in moderate impairment; avoid use in severe renal impairment
Hepatic impairment: Dose should not exceed 20 mg daily in moderate hepatic dysfunction
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
