Pharmacology

Zolium XR 1 mg binds with high affinity to the GABA-benzodiazepine receptor complex in the central nervous system. By enhancing the effect of GABA, an inhibitory neurotransmitter, it promotes chloride influx into neurons, hyperpolarizing the cell membrane and reducing neuronal excitability. It acts on benzodiazepine receptors BNZ1 (sleep mediation) and BNZ2 (muscle relaxation, motor coordination, anticonvulsant activity, and memory), producing anxiolytic, sedative, and muscle-relaxant effects.

Dosage and Administration

Adults:

• Initial dose: 0.25 mg 2–3 times daily

• Dose may be increased in 0.25 mg increments based on symptom severity and response

• Maximum usual dose: 4 mg/day (some panic disorder cases may require up to 10 mg/day under careful supervision)

Elderly and Debilitated Patients:

• Initial dose: 0.125 mg 2–3 times daily

• Gradual increase based on tolerance and clinical response

Administration Tips:

• Administer Zolium XR 1 mg once daily, preferably in the morning for patients on multiple Zolium doses

• Tablets should be swallowed whole; not to be chewed, crushed, or broken

• Gradual tapering is recommended when discontinuing therapy (reduce by 0.5 mg every 3 days)

Drug Interactions

Contraindications
