Benzodiazepine Sedatives
Zolium XR 1 mg is prescribed for:
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) – management of persistent anxiety symptoms
Short-Term Relief of Anxiety – treatment of acute anxiety episodes
Anxiety Associated with Depression
Panic Disorder – with or without agoraphobia
Zolium XR 1 mg binds with high affinity to the GABA-benzodiazepine receptor complex in the central nervous system. By enhancing the effect of GABA, an inhibitory neurotransmitter, it promotes chloride influx into neurons, hyperpolarizing the cell membrane and reducing neuronal excitability. It acts on benzodiazepine receptors BNZ1 (sleep mediation) and BNZ2 (muscle relaxation, motor coordination, anticonvulsant activity, and memory), producing anxiolytic, sedative, and muscle-relaxant effects.
Adults:
Initial dose: 0.25 mg 2–3 times daily
Dose may be increased in 0.25 mg increments based on symptom severity and response
Maximum usual dose: 4 mg/day (some panic disorder cases may require up to 10 mg/day under careful supervision)
Elderly and Debilitated Patients:
Initial dose: 0.125 mg 2–3 times daily
Gradual increase based on tolerance and clinical response
Administration Tips:
Administer Zolium XR 1 mg once daily, preferably in the morning for patients on multiple Zolium doses
Tablets should be swallowed whole; not to be chewed, crushed, or broken
Gradual tapering is recommended when discontinuing therapy (reduce by 0.5 mg every 3 days)
CNS depressants, psychotropic drugs, anticonvulsants, antihistamines, alcohol, and oral contraceptives may enhance sedation
Careful monitoring required when co-administered with drugs affecting CNS activity
Hypersensitivity to Zolium XR 1 mg or other benzodiazepines
Myasthenia gravis, acute narrow-angle glaucoma
Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Zolium XR 1 mg, a triazole analog of 1,4-benzodiazepines, produces anxiolytic, hypnotic, and anticonvulsive effects by enhancing GABA activity at the benzodiazepine receptor complex. Its extended-release formulation provides sustained CNS depressant activity for improved control of anxiety symptoms.
