Indications

Ezeta Tablet 10 mg is indicated for:

• Primary hypercholesterolemia (heterozygous familial and non-familial)

• Homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, as adjunctive therapy with statins

• Homozygous sitosterolemia (phytosterolemia)

• Reduction of elevated total cholesterol and LDL-C levels

It is recommended as an adjunct to diet and lifestyle modification.

Pharmacology

Ezetimibe selectively inhibits the absorption of cholesterol and related plant sterols at the brush border of the small intestine. It acts by blocking the Niemann-Pick C1-Like 1 (NPC1L1) transport protein, which is responsible for intestinal cholesterol uptake. As a result, less cholesterol is delivered to the liver, leading to increased clearance of cholesterol from the blood.

Unlike statins, Ezetimibe does not inhibit cholesterol synthesis in the liver and therefore has minimal effect on triglycerides and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C).
