Losucon 3 mg Tablet is an oral antidiabetic medicine belonging to the sulfonylurea class, used for the management of Type II diabetes mellitus (non-insulin dependent diabetes). It is prescribed as an adjunct to diet and exercise in patients whose blood glucose levels cannot be adequately controlled through lifestyle modification alone. Losucon 3 mg helps improve glycaemic control and reduces the risk of long-term diabetic complications when used as part of a comprehensive diabetes management plan.

Sulfonylureas
Losucon 3 mg is indicated in the following conditions:
As an adjunct to diet and exercise to lower blood glucose in patients with Type II diabetes mellitus whose hyperglycaemia is not adequately controlled by lifestyle measures alone
In combination with metformin when diet, exercise, and either Losucon 3 mg or metformin alone fail to achieve adequate glycaemic control
In combination with insulin in patients whose blood glucose levels cannot be controlled by diet, exercise, and an oral hypoglycaemic agent alone (with increased risk of hypoglycaemia)
Losucon 3 mg stimulates the release of insulin from functioning pancreatic β-cells. It enhances the sensitivity of these cells to physiological glucose stimuli, leading to improved insulin secretion. In addition to its pancreatic action, Losucon 3 mg reduces hepatic glucose output and increases peripheral tissue sensitivity to insulin, promoting better glucose uptake. The hypoglycaemic effect of a single dose can persist for up to 24 hours in non-fasting diabetic patients.
The dosage of Losucon 3 mg is individualized based on blood glucose levels and therapeutic response.
Initial dose: Usually 1 mg once daily
Dose titration: Gradual increases at intervals of 1–2 weeks based on blood glucose monitoring (1 mg → 2 mg → 3 mg → 4 mg → up to 6 mg if required)
Maintenance dose: Commonly 1–4 mg daily in well-controlled patients
Losucon 3 mg is generally taken once daily, immediately before or with the first main meal. Tablets should be swallowed whole with sufficient liquid. Skipping meals after taking the medication should be avoided.
Losucon 3 mg may interact with several medications. Drugs such as insulin, other oral antidiabetics, ACE inhibitors, salicylates, fluconazole, and certain antibiotics may enhance its hypoglycaemic effect. Corticosteroids, diuretics, thyroid hormones, and sympathomimetic agents may reduce its blood-glucose-lowering action. Alcohol intake may unpredictably increase or decrease its effect.
