Spanil 10 mg is a prescription medication used to relieve abdominal pain and spasms associated with gastrointestinal and genitourinary conditions. Its active ingredient, Hyoscine Butylbromide, belongs to the antispasmodic drug class, which works by relaxing smooth muscles in the digestive and urinary tracts. Spanil provides rapid relief from cramps, colicky pain, and discomfort, making it suitable for patients experiencing abdominal or pelvic muscle spasms.

Spanil 10 mg is indicated for the symptomatic relief of:
Abdominal pain due to intestinal colic, spastic constipation, or gastrointestinal cramps
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
Renal colic associated with urinary tract stones
Spasmodic dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation caused by uterine spasms)
Other conditions with smooth muscle spasms in the gastrointestinal or urinary systems
Hyoscine Butylbromide is a muscarinic receptor antagonist. It selectively blocks the action of acetylcholine on smooth muscles, reducing involuntary contractions in the gastrointestinal and urinary tracts. By inhibiting these spasms, Spanil 10 mg helps alleviate pain, discomfort, and bloating. Unlike other anticholinergic drugs, Hyoscine Butylbromide is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, limiting systemic effects and minimizing central nervous system side effects.
Adult dosage: 10–20 mg orally, up to 3–4 times daily, depending on the severity of symptoms
Tablets should be taken with or without food, swallowed whole with water
Elderly patients: Use the lowest effective dose, as sensitivity may be increased
Dosage should be adjusted individually based on response and tolerability
May enhance the effects of other anticholinergic drugs, increasing the risk of dry mouth, blurred vision, or urinary retention
Concomitant use with antihistamines, tricyclic antidepressants, or other drugs with anticholinergic activity may intensify side effects
No significant interactions with most common medications have been reported, but caution is advised in patients on multiple therapies
Spanil 10 mg is contraindicated in patients with:
Known hypersensitivity to Hyoscine Butylbromide or any tablet components
Glaucoma (especially narrow-angle)
