Amoxicillin is a bactericidal antibiotic that inhibits the biosynthesis of bacterial cell walls, resulting in the destruction of susceptible bacteria. It is stable in gastric acid and is rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are typically reached within 1 to 2 hours. Amoxicillin is widely distributed throughout body tissues and fluids, enabling effective treatment of infections at multiple sites.
