Vastocor 10 mg is a cholesterol-lowering medication containing Vastocor, a statin that helps reduce elevated cholesterol and lipoprotein levels in the blood. It is primarily used to manage hypercholesterolemia and reduce cardiovascular risk in patients with coronary heart disease. By inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, Vastocor 10 mg promotes the clearance of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and improves overall lipid profiles.

Vastocor 10 mg is indicated for:
Primary hypercholesterolemia (types IIa and IIb) in patients who do not respond adequately to diet and lifestyle modifications
Coronary heart disease with elevated plasma cholesterol levels
Other Anti-anginal & Anti-ischaemic drugs
Statins (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors)
Vastocor 10 mg reduces LDL cholesterol primarily by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, the key enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis. This inhibition:
Increases LDL receptor density in liver cells, enhancing LDL removal from plasma
Promotes catabolism of LDL cholesterol
Reduces VLDL cholesterol and limits formation of LDL from VLDL
The drug is extensively metabolized in the liver, which is also its main site of action.
Starting dose: 10 mg once daily in the evening
Dose adjustment: Every 4 weeks, if needed, up to 40 mg once daily
Hypercholesterolemia: 5–10 mg daily, max 40 mg
Coronary heart disease with hypercholesterolemia: Starting dose 20 mg daily in the evening
Special Considerations:
Patients should maintain a standard cholesterol-lowering diet throughout treatment
Renal insufficiency does not require dosage adjustment
Not established for children and adolescents
Digoxin: Slight increase in plasma levels when co-administered
Warfarin: Slight enhancement of anticoagulant effect
